Urban Camouflage is a cool website / art project that explores how to hide in urban and commercial spaces, instead of the usual woodland / desert camouflage.

Only 3 projects up so far, but looking forward to more. I could see it being a little unsettling being in a store where they were doing this, but a really interesting concept none the less.
WebUrbanist also had an interesting (and somewhat NSFW) collection of urban camouflage, painting, art, clothes, etc. Kind of trippy and cool.
Both sort of interesting for looking at how people in urban environments tune out so much of their surroundings, and how to play with that.
The contents of every comment section and forum on the internet summed up in under 3 minutes. NSFW:

Makes me think you could make a really cool dress / Halloween costume from this. Just a normal dress where the bottom was a shark mouth and maybe the arm/shoulder was a fin would be really cool, even with no tail. Maybe some ripped / shredded tights to go with it.
I attempted to photoshop up this idea, but it came out laughably terrible, so I’ll let you imagine from the description.
You know that “I agree to the terms and conditions outlined in this site’s terms of use document” check box you have to click before joining any major site on the internet? And that EULA you have to agree to before installing closed source software? This video pretty much sums it up.
The GPL, learn it, love it. (Version 2 is also fine.)
Facebook, not so long ago, briefly tried to update their terms of use, so that they own anything and everything you’ve ever put on it, and will continue to do so even if you choose to leave the site. They could do this because their previous terms of use (which you had to read to join the site) said that you agree to any and all updates they make to their terms of use in the future, even if you don’t read it, acknowledge it, or know the terms changed. After a bit of outcry they reverted their terms. If Facebook’s history of “upgrade it whether the users like it or not” is any indication, this will creep back in slowly soon enough.
Also, back to the video, I absolutely love Sara’s just barely highlighted blue on top of black hair. So cool.
Youngme / Nowme is an art project where people post pictures of themselves now, recreating pictures taken of them when they were young. They’re a bit hit or miss, and there’s a fair number of missing / broken pictures, but a few of them are absolutely great.
A few favorites (I know, lame link text, but I don’t want to give them away): here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
Kind of makes me want to dig up some baby pictures. Whole collection here.

Good song. Great theme and variations. Pleasantly non-professional production to it. Plus, all done in one shot, in one take, which I’m a sucker for. I love how it has sort of a vibe of combining different groups of people in a high school. Seems like the kind of great class project that almost never seems to come together. I dig it.

Zappos is an online shoe retailer with a mind-blowingly good reputation for great customer service. I’ve never actually bought anything from them, but I’ve read many, many articles about how good their customer service is, and how great of a company they are to work for.
They now have a map online that shows in real time what is being bought on their site, and roughly where it’s being shipped to. It’s strangely fascinating. You can also click on the images of shoes that pop up and see more details about that specific shoe.
There is only one known pig in all of Afghanistan. Via Kottke and Boing Boing.
Given that it sound like it’s because no one in Afghanistan eats pork due to religious laws, I’m curious how many other countries have few or no pigs for the same reason.
Random bonus history of why it’s a pig in the field and pork on the table:
In 1066, William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, invaded and conquered England and the Anglo-Saxons. After the invasion, the Norman kings and the nobility spoke a dialect of Old French known as Anglo-Norman, while English continued to be the language of the common people. This class distinction can still be seen in the English language today in words such as “beef” vs. “cow” and “pork” vs. “pig.” The aristocracy commonly ate beef and pork, which are derivatives of Anglo-Norma, while the Anglo-Saxon commoners, who tended the cattle and hogs, retained the Germanic and ate cow and pig.
I have no idea where swine came in to that equation.
