The Holy Gospel of the Easter Bunny

You may think that many of the traditions and celebrations that are now part of the Easter holiday have absolutely nothing to do with religion.  That they’re actually mostly left overs from pagan holidays celebrating the equinox and the start of spring, and that Easter was meant to ease conversion by occurring at nearly the same time and taking many of the same themes.  That perhaps candy and bunnies and dyed eggs shouldn’t be such a big part of the celebration.  That there are no more than five puns you could make around the Easter Bunny and religion.  Turns out, you’d be wrong.  Dead and resurrected wrong:

Any one else notice what the lizard guards are wearing on their heads at 1:23 in that clip?  Remind you of anything?

Mainstream Media Commercial

Aren’t you glad we’ve forgotten about all those complex issues related to things like being at war in two countries, the $5,000,000,000,000 bailout, and torturing people we’ve unconstitutionally detained, and back to the things that really matter, like Kanye West and Balloon Boy?

Plants vs Zombies

I’m presenting these in the order that I found them, not because it makes more sense that way, but because it makes slightly less, and then you can share in the somewhat befuddled but interested discovery process.

I came across this video on Boing Boing:

And it’s sufficiently addictive (catchy song, amusingly random, cute girl, probably all of the above) that I watched it a couple of times.  I eventually decided (a couple of days later with it still stuck in my head) that I was going to figure out where it came from.

So, I eventually figured out that there’s a game called Plants vs Zombies that you can play the first few levels of online for free.  It’s an okay game, a decent time waster, but nothing too spectacular.  But once you play it for a while, the song starts making more and more sense (still not lots, but more at least).

So, even more eventually (at least a week, maybe two, since watching the first video, as I played the game on and off 5 minutes at a time in the evenings until I ran out of free levels) I watched the video on youtube, and in the related video section was this, which sort of made it all come together:

Drill, Baby, Drill!

Drill Here, Drill Now!!!

Oh, and be sure not to let pesky little things like “facts” or “rational thought” get in your way:

Image via Architecture 2030.  Especially note the time scale.

What we really need here are some good chants that people can mindlessly repeat in a near zombie like fashion (such as “Brains. Brains!”), but instead of spreading idiocy (or undead-ness, wait, those are the same), spreading sane, rational thought.

A few suggestions:

  • “Solar, Baby, Solar!”
  • “Blow me! I’m a turbine! Blow me!”
  • “Cars like hemp too!  Go, bio fuels, go!”
  • “Walk, ride a bike, use public transit where available, keep your vehicle well maintained, drive sensibly, be sure your house is well insulated, turn off lights and appliances you’re not using, don’t go shopping if you don’t need something, consume less, and value people and experiences over stuff!!!!!!!”

Okay, so the last one is a little low on chant-ablity, but good for near breathless screaming.  Other thoughts for slogans?
